NORSKE Tog has ordered an initial 30 Alstom Coradia EMUs with an option for a further 170 in a NKr 4.2bn ($US 465.97m) contract.

Manufacturing of the six-car EMUs, which will replace existing 40-year-old trains, will begin in 2023 with the first deliveries planned for 2024 ahead of the commencement of passenger operations on the Østfold line in 2025.

The total capacity of the new trains will be 778 passengers, of which 294 will be seated. Mr Øystein Risan, Norwegian Trains CEO, says this is an increase of 40% on existing fleets..

The new trains will have a dedicated wheelchair space, a fully accessible toilet, wheelchair lifts so that trains can operate at stations with 550mm platform heights, 2+2 seating, space for bicycles, prams and large areas for standing commuters.
