What a missed opportunity. The main 'issues' with Terracycle (in my opinion) are:-
ReplyDelete1. The credibility their scheme affords to manufacturers is far greater than the success of recycling their packaging?
2. The lack of evidence showing how/where any material Terracycle collects is actually recycled; biscuit wrappers, cat food pouches, cigarette butt's, toothpaste tubes - e.g. Terracycle claims to have recycled millions of cigarette ends - where are the pictures and videos showing this actually being done on an industrial scale?
A lot of people work hard collecting the hard to recycle things for Terracycle - its easy for the BBc to slag them off without showing us respect.
ReplyDeleteIf the items you're collecting aren't being recycled, surely it's Terracycle who isn't showing you respect?
ReplyDeleteSadly another case on 'don't do your homework', the duty of care has not been fulfilled if materials can accidently be sent to the wrong location, the BBC should have requested to see the audit trail for these items, duty of care audits etc etc - so for that matter should the EA. This is green washing at it's best. Saying you recycle is easy, doing it is the hard bit!
