(WEV) THE EAV2COOL

Electric Assisted Vehicles Limited (EAV) has produced a low voltage connected actively cooled eCargo bike, which it claims is super-efficient, with the help of DENSO Corporation, a mobility technology supplier and Fortune Global 500 company.

The project with DENSO Corporation involves developing and engineering a new EAV eCargo, which has already been named the EAV2Cool. It provides a sustainable solution to delivering items that need to be kept chilled.

Adam Barmby, Founder and CEO of EAV said: “We know there’s significant interest in the market for a fully connected actively cooled eCargo vehicle rather than just packing cooled goods into highly insulated packaging and trying to minimise temperature gain.

We’re now enthusiastically looking for partners who operate cold chain deliveries or who have a requirement for chilled products distribution, to work with on pilot programmes of the EAV2Cool by the autumn and we’ll be launching the production version with DENSO at the IAA in Hannover during September.”

The 2Cool will feature a 1.4m3 rear compartment, fully connected and actively chilled to an operating temperature of between 2C – 5C which can be sustained for 10 hours in 30C ambient heat.

Nesh Cvetkovic, Director Connected Services at DENSO International Europe said: “A significant proportion of that last mile traffic requires the option of active cooling that is connected and dynamically traceable, especially with food and pharmaceuticals. To provide this capability, DENSO’s innovation team entered into a collaborative engineering programme with EAV, who are the leaders in micromobility solutions, to produce the EAV2Cool.”

According to EAV, the effectiveness of the connected active cooling system will also allow the EAV2Cool to be able to be used for street vending in any location keeping food and drinks fresh. (AUC) H2 ABERDEEN PROJECT ADDS EAV BIKES

A hydrogen-fuel cell electric cargo bike trial is being launched in Aberdeen.

The bikes are made by Oxfordshire based manufacturer Electric Assisted Vehicles (EAV), who are building six eCargo bikes for the project, which is set to start in 2022.

The trial has been set up to help gather new insight in the use of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles for last-mile deliveries.

EAV says it has developed its bikes because it has concerns over the weight of battery-powered vehicles, as well as the true environmental impact of them.

“It’s a simple fact that the raw materials for battery production are in short supply.” said Adam Barmby, CEO and founder of EAV.

“EAV focuses on weight reduction, so we use less energy and therefore require less batteries.”

The EVAH2Cubed eCargo bike that will be used in the trial incorporates the fuel cell in its powertrain, using the electricity generated to charge a small number of batteries. The only emission as a result of the hydrogen being created is water.

“The Transport Secretary, Grant Shapps, recently delivered a speech at the Dubai Expo 2020 stating that the UK will be taking a global lead in developing hydrogen-powered transport.” said Nigel Gordon-Stewart, executive chairman of EAV.
