(H2V) EQTEC PLANS WASTE TO H2 PLANT IN UK

Plans for the ‘first’ waste-to-hydrogen plant in the UK are set to be accelerated with the announcement of a new partnership.

EQTEC revealed today (July 4), it has selected Wood as its technology partner for design, and deployment of a clean, waste-to-hydrogen solution during phase two of develops for the waste-to-energy project at Southport Hybrid Energy Park, Merseyside, UK.

In line with a strategic collaboration agreement (SCA) between EQTEC and Wood, the companies have agreed to co-develop a refuse-derived fuel to clean hydrogen solution, which they say could be the first waste-to-hydrogen plant in the UK.

H2 View understands the partners intent to incorporate Wood’s VESTA syngas-to-hydrogen technology into the plant, the implementation of which is subject to further planning permission.

Under their current plans, the phase two plant would see EQTEC syngas technology convert 25,000 tonnes of refuse-derived fuel (RDF) each year, creating approximately 2.5-3MWe of clean electricity.

Jeff Vander Linden, Chief Operating Officer of EQTEC, said, “Our joint efforts at Southport with Wood will not only generate a unique, waste-to-hydrogen solution, but will also introduce the Southport community to a solution for clean, circular, sustainable energy from waste.

“The future of renewable energy will be a mixed economy with diverse technologies, and even the relatively compact Southport plant will demonstrate that. Such projects are at the cutting edge of innovation in the UK.”
