ORBITAL - ONE BIG MOMENT

CHEWING PLASTIC

Whether it’s used to look cool or simply to keep your breath minty fresh, chewing gum isn’t great for the planet.

In fact, it’s actually made from ingredients that make it super difficult to break down, including synthetic rubber, which is also used to make car tyres and flooring. Another issue is the huge litter problem it causes.

95% of our country’s streets is stained with gum, according to Keep Britain Tidy. The Local Government Association has also recommended a tax to help pay for a big clean up.  More HERE

KILLING HORSES

The biggest UK racing event of the year, the Grand National, is thought to be one of the biggest killers of trained horses.

The last two Grand National deaths came in 2012, when 'According To Pete' was brought down and broke his upper leg, and 'Synchronised' (who had just won at Cheltenham) ran free and broke its right leg.

Both were subsequently destroyed. Why not browse all the horses killed racing on the following link.

ARE ELECTRIC CARS ETHICAL?

Cobalt is a key component in batteries for electric cars, phones and laptops, and the DRC provides more than half of global supply.

Tens of thousands of children as young as six dig for the toxic substance in artisanal mines in the country’s south-east, without protective clothing, rights groups say. As companies move to secure their supply of cobalt, they should also make a push to improve transparency and labour rights, said US-based advocacy group the Enough Project.

TUBEWAY ARMY - ARE FRIENDS ELECTRIC

IGNORANCE IS BLISS

Revoke Article 50 petition hits 4 MILLION as thousands prepare to march.

A petition calling for Article 50 to be revoked, so that Britain remains in the EU, has topped four million signatures. The landmark comes on the day hundreds of thousands are set to march through London calling for a People's Vote.

That's about 13 million less than voted to leave the EU.

Yawn - why did the EU ever agree to an extension? It only encourages the dummies that don't understand democracy to waste a Saturday afternoon but hey, the walk will do them good.

A second referendum sets a precedent whereby a result of a referendum is open to challenge by another referendum Ad infinitum.

INDONESIAN PALM OIL

The warm, humid climate of the tropics offers perfect growth conditions for oil palms.

Day after day, huge tracts of rainforest in Southeast Asia, Latin America and Africa are being bulldozed or torched to make room for more plantations, releasing vast amounts of carbon into the atmosphere. As a consequence, Indonesia – the world’s largest producer of palm oil – temporarily surpassed the United States in terms of greenhouse gas emissions in 2015.

With their CO2 and methane emissions, palm oil-based biofuels actually have three times the climate impact of traditional fossil fuels.
