(REN) TURBINES TO SKIS
Start-up Gjenkraft has used a pyrolysis process to make its Millfiber material from recycled carbon fibre
Nordic start-up Gjenkraft has made skis from recycled carbon fibre from Vestas wind turbine blades.
The skis, made from Millfiber, is the result of a cooperation between Gjenkraft, recycled carbon fibre EVI Ski, Vest Resirkcenter and Fred Olsen Renewables in Norway.
Arvid Lønne, the chairman of the board at Vest Resirkcenter, said: “To change the mindset of the industry on the use of recycled materials, we discovered early-on that making high end products is as important as developing the technology to prove the value of the Millfiber.
“We all need to start thinking differently and more sustainably.
“We are proud that the pyrolysis process that we developed in Gjenkraft will now further be implemented in the pilot at Vest Resirkcenter in Høyanger.
“We have proven that our product will make the skis work perfectly with no difference from skis created with virgin materials.”
Vestas, which is involved with major blade recycling projects CETEC and DecomBlades, stated it is “always excited to see new, creative solutions for blade recycling, and these skis are a perfect example”. reNEWS.biz - link - reNEWS muck rack - link - more like this - link
